Location: Ethel Lund Medical Center – Juneau, Alaska (SEARHC)
Salary: $87,000 – $112,000 annually
Shift: Day Shift | Full-Time
Sign-On Bonus: $10,000
Relocation Bonus: $10,000

Position Summary

 

The Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN) works within SEARHC’s Behavioral Health Division under the direction of psychiatry medical staff to clinically manage a panel of patients. This RN provides supportive counseling, skill-building, psychoeducation, coaching, and strength-based interventions for individuals experiencing behavioral health disorders or serious mental illness.

The role also includes medication management, triage, referrals, patient education, and coordination of care within the behavioral health and primary care teams.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual sessions to monitor medication side effects, adherence, and progress.
  • Provide coaching and support using a strength-based recovery model.
  • Educate patients and families about medications, conditions, and coping strategies.
  • Facilitate medication refills and coordinate with prescribers, pharmacies, and insurance.
  • Perform medication injections and collect labs when needed.
  • Develop individualized treatment and care plans.
  • Collaborate with primary care and specialty providers.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation per SEARHC policy.
  • Participate in team meetings and clinic quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Active RN License – Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license must be obtained upon hire)
    • OR LPN License with 5+ years Behavioral Health experience
  • BLS certification required
  • Clinical competency within 3 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter
  • Minimum 6 months of nurse case management experience
  • Preferred: Experience in mental health, substance use disorder (SUD), or medical triage

Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of psychiatric and SUD medications and treatment practices
  • Strong communication, patient education, and documentation skills
  • Ability to assess and respond to patient acuity promptly
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHRs)
  • Compassionate, culturally sensitive approach to care

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, and use hands.
  • Must occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch; able to lift up to 50 lbs.
