JOB DESCRIPTION

W Allis - L&D: Aurora Womens Pavilion I/P - Will be in the House Supervisor department but will only work in the L&D unit

 

 

●       About Facility

o   8901 W. Lincoln Ave, West Allis, WI 53227

o   Level IV Trauma Center

o   Level III NICU

o   Level III Perinatal Center L&D & Postpartum

o   Primary Stroke Center

o   Hospital Beds: 277

●       General Information

o   Beds: 18 LDR, 3 Triage, 3 ORs for C-section, 3 OB-ED rooms

o   Will you accept a traveler with 1 year experience? 2 Year

o   Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes

o   Avg deliveries/day:10, numbers can vary

▪        Limited scheduled procedures (CS, Induction of Labor, other OB procedures) to maximum of 7/day

▪        No C-Sections scheduled on Sunday

●       Patient Types:

o   18 weeks gestational age & clinic patients

o   Intrapartum (labor, delivery, & recovery)

o   Antepartum 22 weeks and greater

o   High Risk: pre eclampsia, hyperemesis, DM

o   Scheduled and unscheduled C-Sections, cerclage placement and removal, tubal ligation

o   D&C (when needed for post-delivery bleeding control)

o   Travelers will not have to work in the OB triage area

●       Patient Ratios:

o   RN:

▪        1:1 active labor, C-section, and recovery of mom/baby couplet after newborn stabilization

▪        1:2 laboring

▪        1:2 cervical ripening, early labor

▪        1:2-3 stable antepartum patients

▪        2:1 care at delivery

●       1 RN for mom, 1 RN for baby until baby is stable

o   OB Tech:

▪        2 days

▪        1 nights

●       Required Certifications:

o   RN: BLS, NRP, FHM

o   CST- BLS

●       Skills required

o   RN-

▪        Must Have Skill: delivery baby experience

▪        Catch babies

▪        Vaginal checks

▪        Assist laboring moms

▪        Recover moms

▪        Antepartum

▪        Intrapartum care: Labor, Delivery, Recovery of Room

▪        All aspects of immediate post delivery of newborn including recovery care prior to transfer to postpartum, which includes monitoring for stabilization of VS,, hypoglycemia, thermoregulation

▪        Management of non-obstetric co-morbidities: diabetes, hypertension, etc.

o   OB Tech:

▪        Scrub C-Sections

▪        Assist with deliveries

▪        Transport patients

●       Education required:

o    

●       Support on the Unit:

o   CNA (Ratio):

o   Receptionist/HUC: 24/7 (responsible for all patient admission/registration)

o   Charge nurse:  Free floating does not routinely have an assignment and is available to help team as needed

o   Phlebotomy:

o   IV/VAT Team:

o   Resource Nurse: OB/Triage Nurse: does not take assignment- OB ED RN responsible for triage and disposition of all patients arriving on unknit (exception of scheduled admissions)

o   Educator: Days

o   RT:

o   OB Hospitalist: 24/7 additional in triage

o   Neonatologist: 24/7

o   Anesthesiologist or CRNA on unit: 24/7

o   Telemetry monitoring:
