Description
Title: Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)
Shift: Day, 5x8-hour shifts
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hrs/week
Short Description:
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) supports Physical Therapy services by assisting in implementing treatment plans, facilitating exercises and functional activities, and ensuring patient safety and progress in accordance with state practice guidelines.
Complete Description:
The PTA assists in delivering superior patient care under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. Responsibilities include implementing therapeutic programs for posture, strength, balance, coordination, mobility, endurance, and functional skills. The PTA trains patients in the safe use of assistive devices (e.g., canes, walkers, wheelchairs) and monitors patient responses to interventions.
The role emphasizes safety and adherence to Select Medical’s Core Values, maintaining compliance with infection control, personal appearance, attendance, and documentation standards. The PTA will:
- Promote patient and employee safety through adherence to the “10 Foot Circle of Safety.”
- Assist in applying modalities (whirlpool, ultrasound, paraffin bath, TNS, fluidotherapy, etc.).
- Provide patient and family education on body mechanics, mobility, and home exercises.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain professional ethics and up-to-date knowledge through continuing education.
Requirements:
- Valid state PTA license (required)
- BLS certification (required)
- Minimum 2 years of bedside experience (required)
