Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Pediatrics Home Health

Location: Akron, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)

Shift: 28.5 hours/week, Tuesday/Thursday/Friday, 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM


Job Description

  • Dedicated Pediatric Home Health position (no facility work).
  • One patient visit per shift; LPN will remain at the same home for the entire shift.
  • Patients primarily on tracheostomies and ventilators at home.
  • Travel up to 1 hour to patient homes from the facility.
  • Requires 6 months experience in home health or acute care.
  • Preferred experience: Pediatrics and/or working with individuals with developmental delays.
  • Preferred experience managing technology-dependent and medically complex patients.
  • Strong communication skills required to interact with all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software required.

Qualifications

  • Education: RN, BSN required.
  • Licensure: Current Ohio RN license required.
  • Certifications: Current CPR/BLS certification through the American Heart Association required.
  • Experience: Minimum 6 months in one or more of the following: Home Care, Geriatric Care, Medical/Surgical, CCU, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, or Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD).

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (RQI acceptable).
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for RNs).
  • Unit-specific competency exam (updated annually).
  • Core Parts I, II, and III (updated annually).
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (updated annually).

Additional certifications preferred or required depending on unit:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (for certain critical care areas).
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only (for pediatric critical care areas).
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AAP/AHA only (for NICU and related areas).
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - preferred for PICU & ER.
  • CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) - preferred for OR.
  • STABLE certification - required for NICU (can be completed onsite).

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national criminal, nationwide sex offender, FACIS Level 3, OFAC, education verification, and international checks if applicable.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and must be updated annually or after breaks in service over 30 days.
  • Ohio-specific BCI and FBI fingerprinting required within 1 month of start and updated annually. Reprints required if candidate has lived/worked outside Ohio since last fingerprinting.
  • Education verification or diploma/transcript required.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and titers required: Tdap (within 10 years), Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 12 months), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (positive titer or vaccinations accepted).
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; new screen required after breaks in service over 30 days.
  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (11/15 - 5/31).

Documentation & Other Requirements

  • Valid government-issued photo ID must be carried on assignment.
  • Two positive professional references required, including at least one from the most recent employer.
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required, updated annually.
  • Candidate must sign facility-specific agreements including computer security, HIPAA/confidentiality, and float policy (for pediatric and ICU areas).
  • Time-sensitive non-employee personal information form must be completed within 72 hours of signed contract to initiate access.
  • Fingerprint clearance attestation required.

This position is ideal for RNs with pediatric home health experience who are comfortable managing medically complex, technology-dependent pediatric patients in a home setting. Strong communication skills and proficiency with basic computer software are essential.
