Job Summary
As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit, you will provide advanced nursing care to patients with critical neurological conditions. This includes collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, utilizing specialized monitoring equipment, and implementing individualized care plans that address both acute needs and long-term recovery goals.
You’ll play a vital role in patient stabilization, neurological assessments, and family education — ensuring every patient receives high-quality, compassionate care in a fast-paced, supportive environment.
Core Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Deliver comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill neurological patients.
- Monitor and assess patients using neurological and hemodynamic parameters.
- Administer and titrate IV medications, sedation, and ventilator support as per protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop and adjust care plans.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and families regarding disease process and recovery.
- Uphold safety standards, infection control policies, and professional nursing practices.
- Document accurately and communicate effectively within the healthcare team.
- Participate in performance improvement, shared governance, and professional development initiatives.
Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (Associate’s required).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) License (Single State or Compact).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire.
- Advanced certifications (ACLS, NIHSS, CCRN) preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of critical care or ICU nursing experience required.
- Neuro ICU experience strongly preferred.
Skills:
- Strong critical thinking and rapid decision-making abilities.
- Skilled in ventilator management, neuro-monitoring, and complex patient care.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in EMR systems and clinical documentation.
- Ability to function effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.
