About the Role
This Rapid Response RN role is designed for experienced critical care nurses who want to make a direct impact during emergent situations. You will respond to Rapid Response Team (RRT) calls, assess clinical deterioration, coordinate interventions, and support staff across the facility during critical patient events. This position requires strong clinical judgment, quick decision-making, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Schedule
- Full-Time Weekend Position
- Friday, Saturday, Sunday (Three 12-hour shifts)
- Total: 36 hours per week
- Day Shift
Job Summary
The Rapid Response Nurse functions as a clinical expert in identifying, assessing, and stabilizing patients experiencing acute deterioration. This role includes coordinating interventions, documenting outcomes, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, providing education to staff, analyzing RRT data, and supporting quality and safety initiatives. The nurse also addresses the biological, emotional, psychosocial, and educational needs of patients and families during critical events.
Core Responsibilities
1. Patient Care
- Respond to all Rapid Response Team calls promptly.
- Perform comprehensive assessments, develop action plans, intervene during emergencies, and evaluate outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with medical staff, nursing teams, and support departments to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Provide clinical support and guidance during patient crises.
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes using SBAR and appropriate documentation standards.
- Assist in developing and implementing clinical practice guidelines for rapid response care.
- Conduct follow-up assessments after RRT events.
- Provide education to patients, families, and clinical staff on rapid response protocols.
2. Data Monitoring & Quality Improvement
- Collect, track, and trend RRT activity and outcomes.
- Analyze data to identify opportunities for improvement and report findings to leadership.
- Recommend improvements based on data trends and outcomes.
- Review patient code data to identify patterns and prevention strategies.
- Monitor near-miss events and initiate preventive measures to promote patient safety.
3. Professional Practice
- Serve as a clinical expert and role model for professional nursing practice.
- Mentor and support peer development and new staff orientation.
- Act as a liaison between patients, families, and the medical team.
- Promote a positive and supportive work environment.
- Support efficient use of resources and assist with recruitment/retention.
- Participate in performance improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to nursing ethical standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned while upholding organizational policies and standards.
