Work Experience
Description
RN - MED SURGE ONCO
- Shift: Night 3×12-hour (18:45–07:15)
- RTO: Not allowed after booking; any call-offs/additional RTO may result in cancel/DNR
- Unit: MS/Oncology — Med-Surg skilled RNs needed
- Required Experience: Minimum 2 years specialty experience
- Traveler Experience: 1st-time travelers accepted
- Locals: Accepted (rate difference applies)
- Required Skills: Inpatient experience, Med/Surg, colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central line draw, peripheral line care, PICC management, heparin/insulin drips, surgical drains, chest tubes, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac
- Certifications Required: BLS
- Certifications Not Required: ONC (not required for submission)
- Preferred Skills/Certs: CPI, charge experience, OCN
- Patient Population: Primarily medical-surgical with oncology history
- Target Ratios: 1:6
- Shift Type: Nights
- Contract Length: 13–26 weeks accepted
- Call Requirement: Call required if called off
- Float Requirement: Float to similar units, inpatient holding in ED, and alternate medical areas
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
- Emergency Expectations: Storm Team/Hurricane Team; may be required to report during disasters
- Patient Diagnoses: General Med-Surg, chemo/biotherapy administration (IV/PO/injection), AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, OD, malignant neoplasms, ARF, encephalopathy, FTT, diabetic foot ulcers, heparin drips
- Special Procedures: Daily census 42; ratios may increase during high census
- System Use: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR
- Orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
- Scrubs: Navy blue & white
- Testing: Must pass EKG test before start
- COVID Vaccine: Not required
- Flu Vaccine: Required (medical/religious exemption allowed)
- Previous Employment Rule: Must wait 12 months if previously PERM/PRN/EP at Novant or New Hanover
- Per Diem Conflict: Cannot work per diem and travel simultaneously
- Local Radius Rule: Under 50 miles = lower local rate
- Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 of 3 major holidays; no RTO first week
- Floating: May float within hospital or affiliate hospitals
- Travel Pairs: Allowed but must work on different units
- Charting: EPIC experience preferred
- References: Two manager/supervisor references preferred
- Fatigue Policy: Max 5 days in a row, max 60 hours/week
- Modules: Acute: 8–10 hrs; Non-acute: 4–5 hrs; required pre-start
