Job Description – Registered Nurse (RN), CVICU

Position: Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: 12-Hour Nights (12N)
Hours: 36 hours per week

Overview

We are seeking an experienced CVICU Registered Nurse to join our cardiovascular intensive care team for a 13-week assignment. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical experience working with high-acuity cardiac patients in an intensive care setting. This role requires advanced critical-care skills, excellent clinical judgment, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill cardiac and post-operative cardiovascular patients.
• Monitor, assess, and manage patients requiring advanced hemodynamic support.
• Utilize and interpret cardiac monitors, telemetry, ventilators, and vasoactive infusions.
• Perform continuous assessment and documentation of patient conditions using ICU standards of care.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team including physicians, respiratory therapists, and other specialists.
• Respond promptly to cardiac emergencies and rapid changes in patient condition.
• Administer medications, treatments, and interventions in accordance with facility protocols.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
• Provide compassionate communication and education to patients and families.

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license (state-specific as required).
• Minimum 1–2 years of recent CVICU experience caring for intensive cardiac and post-cardiac surgery patients.
• Proficiency with cardiac monitoring, ventilators, drips, and hemodynamic equipment.
• Strong critical-thinking and rapid-response skills.
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and 36 hours per week.

Certifications Required

• BLS – Basic Life Support (AHA)
• ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (AHA)

Contract Details

• 13-week assignment
• Night shift – 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours guaranteed per week (unless otherwise specified)
• Weekend and holiday requirements may apply based on unit needs.
