Responsibilities

• Float throughout assigned units: 5 MedSurg, 5 Med Peds, Telemetry, IMCU, Rehab, and Behavioral Health (senior/adolescent/adult).
• Manage patient ratios: MedSurg/Tele 1:5–6; IMCU 1:5; work alongside LPNs taking full assignments.
• Provide care for a range of diagnoses including acute surgical, ortho/neuro, hip/knee, general med-surg, detox, hospice, respiratory illness (peds), post-surgical tele, CHF, chest pain, radial cath recovery, renal patients (PD), and rehab cases.
• Manage chest tubes (primarily IMCU), BiPAP/CPAP (home-use on Med/Tele; continuous use on IMCU/ICU).
• Perform heparin titration per protocol; manage non-titrated drips such as insulin (Glucomander) and Lasix.
• In IMCU, may manage titratable drips such as amiodarone, cardizem, dobutamine, and Lasix.
• Collaborate with unit leadership: Team Leads (days) without patients; Charge RN (nights/weekends/holidays) with patient assignments.
• Work with CNAs at 1:10 ratios; assist with behavioral/suicidal sitter cases when needed.
• Utilize RT-managed equipment; support RT with neb treatments only when requested.
• Verify tele strips (remote monitoring available 24/7; ICU self-monitors).
• Follow scheduling requirements: 12-hour shifts (5–5), mental health unit (7–7), call-in for assignment up to 1 hour before shift.
• Work every other weekend and every other holiday; occasional call may be required.
• Attend department orientation: one 12-hour shift on one unit; units set up similarly.

Requirements
Experience:

• Minimum 2+ years of RN experience
• Prior float pool experience strongly preferred
• Cath lab recovery experience required for IMCU
• No first-time travelers accepted
• Epic experience required
• Preferred: previous travel RN experience

Certifications & Licenses:

• Active Illinois RN license (must be in hand at submission)
• BLS (required)
• ACLS (required)
• NIHSS (preferred)
• Valid Driver’s License (submission requirement)

Education:

• Not specified by the facility; standard RN education acceptable
