Description

Unit Overview:
This NICU cares for infants with a variety of high-acuity neonatal conditions. Travelers should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing complex clinical situations independently.

Common Diagnoses / Procedures:

Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS)
Hypoglycemia
Prematurity
Rule-out Sepsis
Transient Tachypnea of the Newborn (TTN)

Special Procedures Performed on Unit:

Assisting with circumcisions
PICC line removal
Assisting with lumbar punctures
Assisting with neonatal eye exams

Common Medications:

Iron supplementation
Vitamin infusions
Caffeine
Antibiotics

Common Equipment:

Ventilators
Giraffe beds
Feeding pumps
IV pumps

Float Expectations:
Travelers may be required to float based on census to:

Mother/Child Health (MCH)
Postpartum
Newborn Nursery
House-wide sitter assignments
Shift Details:
Hours: 19:00–07:30
Weekends: Required

Required Certifications:

BLS
NRP
PALS (if applicable)
BCLS
Must have previous traveler experience.
Required / Preferred Skills
Line Management:
Required: IV insertion
Required: PICC/Central line management
Required: Arterial line (A-line) management
Airway/Respiratory Skills:
Required: CPAP/BiPAP management
Required: Ventilator management
