Full-Time | 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM (Evening Shift)
Job Summary
The Main Operating Room RN is a key member of an interdisciplinary surgical team, responsible for delivering safe, high-quality, and patient-centered perioperative care. This RN practices within a collaborative environment supported by shared governance, evidence-based practice, and a professional nursing model.
The RN ensures optimal surgical outcomes through effective assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, teamwork, and communication. The role supports patient advocacy, operational efficiency, and compliance with professional, ethical, and regulatory standards.
Core Responsibilities
Exemplary Practice & Patient Outcomes
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and implement individualized care using the full nursing process.
- Provide safe, relationship-based, patient-centered care for diverse surgical populations.
- Participate in bedside reporting, interdisciplinary rounds, and patient/family communication.
- Deliver care consistent with evidence-based standards and perioperative best practices.
Teamwork & Collaboration
- Coordinate and document safe surgical care in alignment with the professional care delivery model.
- Collaborate with nursing, surgical, anesthesia, and ancillary teams to support efficient workflow.
- Promote a respectful, inclusive environment and support retention of healthcare team members.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives, research utilization, and shared governance.
Professional Development & Initiative
- Complete all competency assessments, mandatory training, and population-specific education.
- Serve as a preceptor/mentor to new nurses, students, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Model professional nursing practice and help build a healthy work environment.
Evidence-Based Practice & Research
- Support evidence-based decision-making, value analysis, and clinical product evaluation.
- Uphold all organizational, legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards (e.g., TJC patient safety goals).
- Participate in data collection and consult with experts to enhance practice outcomes.
Resource Management & Support
- Plan proactively for patient needs across the perioperative continuum.
- Collaborate with care managers and surgical teams to create protocols, reduce adverse events, and improve outcomes.
- Support efficient use of staff, equipment, and materials in the operating room.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing — Required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — Preferred
Licensure & Certifications
- Active RN License (Single-State or Multi-State Compact)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification — Required
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of RN patient care experience — Required
