Job Overview 

We are seeking experienced PCU/Stepdown RN Travelers for 13-week contracts at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in the Norfolk, VA area. Patient diagnoses include CHF, COPD, renal failure, stroke, pneumonia, wounds, ETOH. Unit utilizes BiPAP, nurse-driven diuretic protocol, peritoneal dialysis, IV Glucommander. Travelers must read their own paper telemetry strips. PCU ratios 1:3–5; will float down to Tele/Med-Surg as needed.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, assess, and provide nursing care according to hospital mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures.
• Deliver high-quality care with professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, and good public/customer relations.
• Complete applicable hospital and department-specific RN competencies within 3 months of hire/transfer.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Provide patient and family education to support optimal outcomes.

Qualifications 

Required:

• Active Virginia or Compact RN license in good standing.
• Recent PCU/Progressive Care or Stepdown experience.
• Ability to interpret paper telemetry strips.
• Comfort managing BiPAP, peritoneal dialysis, IV Glucommander, and nurse-driven protocols.

Schedule

• 36 hours per week, three 12-hour shifts.
• Weekend and holiday requirements per unit policy.
• Float required to Tele/Med-Surg as needed.
• Contract length: 13 weeks.
• Cancellation policy: Up to 3 shift call-offs per contract.
