Registered Nurse (CTICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Utica, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Specialty: Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU)
• Travelers may pick up overtime shifts if available
• Patient ratio: Typically 1:2, occasionally 1:3
• Must be able to float within skillset

Requirements

• Valid New York RN license
• Minimum 2 years of experience, including CTICU experience
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system required
• Ability to work within a 75-mile local radius accepted for local candidates

Certifications & Competencies

• ACLS and BLS certifications must be current and preferably AHA certified
• NIH Stroke Certification required for ICU, PCU, ER, CTICU, and certain med/surg units
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required every 3 years for ICU and related units
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required (minimum 80% score)
• Color Blind Testing required prior to start
• Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York specific, annual)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required for ER staff

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start date
• Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific N95 masks required)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (PPD, Quantiferon Gold accepted; Tspot not accepted)
• Immunizations or positive titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Varicella (chickenpox)
• 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
• Pneumonia vaccination or declination required
• COVID-19 vaccines preferred but not required

Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Emergency Contact Form required prior to start
• Background checks including 7-year search, sex offender registry, and federal exclusions (updated annually)
• Education verification and Florida Education Audit Confirmation (for RN/LPN)
• Facility-specific documents including:

  • Photo for badge (headshot, plain background, no head coverings)
  • Signed job description and welcome packet acknowledgment
  • Completion of online learning modules prior to first shift
  • Omnicell form signed by nursing staff
  • Pneumococcal declination form if applicable

References & History

• 2 professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles
• 1 professional reference required for per diem non-acute care roles
• Skills checklist required annually
