Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ICU)

Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• ICU nursing position
• Patient ratio typically 1:2, occasionally 1:3
• Must be able to float within skillset

Requirements

• New York RN license
• Minimum 2 years nursing experience; Critical Care RN experience preferred
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for ICU staff)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system required

Required Training and Competencies

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% score)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (expires every 3 years; required for ICU staff)
• Color Blind Testing (one-time, prior to start)
• Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or meet Angoff score)
• NY Harassment Prevention Training (annual)

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit Mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific mask types required)
• Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year (with specific documentation requirements)
• Immunizations or proof of immunity for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Varicella (chickenpox)
• Drug screening: 9 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start
• Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination (required during flu season)
• Pneumonia vaccination or declination required
• COVID-19 vaccination preferred but not required

Background and Documentation

• Standard background check including 7-year search and sex offender registry
• Annual EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Education verification required
• Professional references:

  • 2 references for travel, allied, or per diem acute care
  • 1 reference for per diem non-acute care
• Skills checklist required annually

Facility Specific Requirements

• Photo for badge (headshot, plain background, no head coverings)
• Completion of online learning modules prior to first shift
• Signing of facility-specific job description and welcome packet
• Signing of Omnicell form (for nursing staff)
• Pneumococcal declination form if declining vaccine

This position is suitable for experienced ICU nurses licensed in New York who meet the certification and competency requirements and are comfortable working in a critical care environment with occasional floating duties.
