• Required Certifications:
  • BLS
  • NIHSS
• Required Experience: At least 2 years of relevant nursing experience

• Floating

• Travelers float first
• Possible float destinations:
  • Other surgical units
  • Other med-surg units
  • Rare: Covid medical unit (team nursing)

• Scheduling

• Shifts: 7a–7p and 7p–7a
• Scheduling: Travelers fill holes in the schedule
• Weekends: Every other weekend required

Key Compliance Notice

Client will NOT accept any traveler with license hits related to medication diversion or endangerment.
Do NOT submit candidates with these issues. Violations result in immediate contract cancellation.

Unit Details

• Beds: 38 (up to 42 with semi-private rooms)
• Patient Population: General surgery — appendectomies, fractures, GI, gynecology, vascular, etc.

Staffing & Ratios

• RN Ratios: 1:4–5, days and nights
• PCA Availability: Yes; 1:8–15 depending on staffing
  • All PCAs are trained in phlebotomy
• Charge Nurse: Present and not included in staffing

Clinical Expectations

• Drips:
  • No drip titration required
  • Common drip: Heparin (protocol-based)
• Respiratory Equipment: CPAP, nasal cannula
• Telemetry:
  • Tele monitoring in place
  • Monitor techs present
  • RNs not required to read strips, but must recognize lethal rhythms and respond appropriately

• Holidays: No holiday requirement
• Call / Standby: No call; may be placed on standby if low census

Orientation & Dress Code

• Orientation: 3 days total
  • Day 1: General orientation
  • Day 2: General Surgery
• Scrub Color: Royal Blue
