Description
Position Summary
The Med-Surg/Telemetry Registered Nurse provides high-quality, evidence-based care to adult patients requiring medical-surgical management and continuous telemetry monitoring. This role requires strong assessment skills, the ability to manage patient loads effectively, and the clinical competence to respond appropriately to changes in patient status. The RN collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Assessment
- Deliver direct patient care to adult Med-Surg/Tele patients in an acute-care setting.
- Conduct thorough assessments, monitor vital signs, and interpret telemetry data.
- Identify and promptly respond to changes in patient condition.
- Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapies safely and accurately.
Telemetry Monitoring
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize basic arrhythmias.
- Notify providers of significant telemetry changes or concerns.
- Document telemetry findings per facility standards.
Communication & Coordination
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Participate in bedside shift reports and care planning discussions.
- Educate patients and families on conditions, medications, and discharge instructions.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all safety, infection prevention, and hospital regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the facility’s EMR.
- Support patient safety initiatives, including fall prevention and medication safety protocols.
Qualifications
Required:
- Active RN license (state-specific; must be active by start date).
- 2 years of recent acute-care Med-Surg/Telemetry experience.
- BLS certification (AHA).
- NIHSS certification.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and assessment skills.
Preferred:
- ACLS certification.
- Previous experience with travel nursing or float assignments.
- Proficiency with telemetry monitoring and arrhythmia recognition.
