The Registered Nurse (RN) ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care by following the established nursing plan of care. The RN supervises Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and orientees.

The RN also adheres to all hospital guidelines regarding personal appearance, attendance, punctuality, and required competencies for the patient population served.

Job-Specific Duties & Competencies:

• Completes a comprehensive nursing assessment for all new admissions within 8 hours.
• Develops individualized plans of care, identifying teaching needs and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.
• Provides timely patient updates for initial and weekly team conferences.
• Documents assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and promptly.
• Delivers direct patient care using the nursing process—assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care.
• Focuses on patient and family education to support recovery goals.
• Initiates discharge planning on the day of admission and begins teaching in preparation for discharge.
• Communicates changes in patient status to the attending physician and Charge Nurse; consults senior staff as needed.
• Supervises, trains, and delegates tasks to ancillary personnel appropriately.
• Maintains personal and environmental safety per hospital policies.
• Contributes positively to unit operations through effective communication, teamwork, and calm leadership.
• Communicates supply, equipment, and training needs to leadership.
• Provides cost-effective care while supporting quality outcomes.
• May assume Charge Nurse responsibilities after orientation.
• Pursues ongoing professional development and continuing education.
• Prioritizes tasks to ensure efficient use of time and resources.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
