Short Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care by following the established nursing plan of care. The RN supervises Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and orientees.

The RN promotes safety within the 10-Foot Circle of Safety, including:
- Safe patient handling
- Materials handling
- Infectious disease precautions
- Fall prevention
- Maintaining a safe work environment
The RN also adheres to all hospital guidelines regarding personal appearance, attendance, punctuality, and required competencies for the patient population served.
Job-Specific Duties & Competencies:
- Completes a comprehensive nursing assessment for all new admissions within 8 hours.
- Develops individualized plans of care, identifying teaching needs and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.
- Provides timely patient updates for initial and weekly team conferences.
- Documents assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and promptly.
- Delivers direct patient care using the nursing process—assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care.
- Focuses on patient and family education to support recovery goals.
- Initiates discharge planning on the day of admission and begins teaching in preparation for discharge.
- Communicates changes in patient status to the attending physician and Charge Nurse; consults senior staff as needed.
- Supervises, trains, and delegates tasks to ancillary personnel appropriately.
- Maintains personal and environmental safety per hospital policies.
- Contributes positively to unit operations through effective communication, teamwork, and calm leadership.
- Communicates supply, equipment, and training needs to leadership.
- Provides cost-effective care while supporting quality outcomes.
- May assume Charge Nurse responsibilities after orientation.
- Pursues ongoing professional development and continuing education.
- Prioritizes tasks to ensure efficient use of time and resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
