Description

Position: RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant)
Location: Bakersfield, CA 93311
Contract: 14 Weeks
Shift: 4x10's Days (Monday - Thursday)
Guaranteed Hours: 40 per week
Experience Required: 2+ years

Unit & Scheduling Details:

Facility: Operating Room (OR) with 5 active suites (out of 6)
Average Daily Case Volume: 15
Charting System: Cerner
Shift Start: 7:00 AM (variable end times based on daily needs)
Block Scheduling: Coordinated with manager
Call Requirement: Yes, including weeknights, weekends (every other weekend average), and holidays
Call Response Time: 30 minutes
Floating: Required to Downtown (DT) campus as needed

Common Surgical Cases:

Ortho: Total joints (knees, hips, shoulders), scopes, TSAs
Urology: Cystos, ESWLs, TURPs, penile prosthesis, orchiectomies
GYN: Hysterectomies (including robotic), D&C, slings, GYN oncology
Neuro: Ortho spine, brain tumors, craniotomies, subdural hematomas, VP shunts
General/Vascular/ENT: Lap, open, robotics; AV fistulas, carotids; tonsils, pediatric ENT
Other: Bariatrics, eyes, hands, podiatry

Required Skills & Certifications:

Must-Have Experience: Ortho, Robotics (required), Neuro, GYN (SW)
Scrubbing: Required for RNs
Certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA)

Unit Support:

Charge Nurse (typically does not take an assignment unless short-staffed)
OR Techs on staff
RNFA weekend coverage for both campuses (not required for all cases)

Ideal Candidate: Experienced RNFA comfortable in high-volume, multi-specialty OR Adaptable to varying shift lengths and call obligations Proficient with robotics and diverse surgical procedures Willing to float between campuses as needed
