Job Summary

The Radiation Therapist administers radiation treatments to patients with cancer, following the treatment plan prescribed by a radiation oncologist. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining radiation machines, ensuring proper patient positioning, monitoring patients for adverse reactions, maintaining detailed treatment records, and providing patient education and support. Communication systems are used to stay in contact with patients during treatment sessions.

Responsibilities

• Administer radiation therapy treatments according to physician orders.
• Operate and maintain radiation therapy equipment.
• Ensure accurate patient positioning and monitor for adverse reactions.
• Document treatment details and maintain patient records.
• Educate patients and families on treatment processes and self-care.
• Provide support and maintain communication during procedures.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of radiation therapy experience (required).
• ARRT (T) certification (required).
• Compliance with health system-wide profile standards.
• Skills checklist completed within one year (preferred for non-nursing professions).
• Michigan license verification required for nurses (LARA and Nursys).
• Full-time McLaren employees not eligible for contract hire within six months of employment.
