Nights
Minimum 2 years L&D experience
Some postpartum experience
Must be able to work in both L&D and Postpartum
Able to circulate for C-sections
Must be able to care for high-risk OB patients
No critical-access-only experience
First-time travelers accepted
Prefer: experience in similarly sized L&D + PP/MB units
Prefer: recent Epic experience (include last Epic usage date in submission)
Drips / Titration
RNs must titrate drips
Common drips: Pitocin, Magnesium, Insulin
Prefer prior insulin gtt experience (will train if needed)
Provider Coverage
OB: In-house Mon–Fri days; on call nights
Neonatology: Neonatologist days; Neo APP on nights
Anesthesia: CRNA in-house 24/7 for OB
RT: 24/7; manages equipment and treatments
Equipment & Systems
EFM: Epic CPN, GE Connect
Tele Brand: Not specified
RT equipment: Vents, CPAP, BiPAP available
Scheduling & Shifts
Shift Times: 7a–7p and 7p–7a
Self/Block Scheduling: Schedule built by ANM every 6 weeks; block scheduling considered but not guaranteed
Shift Limits: No more than 5 shifts in a row
Traveler Expectation: Flexibility; fill gaps in perm schedule
Weekends: Every other weekend
Days: Sat & Sun
Nights: Fri & Sat
Holidays: May be placed in the holiday rotation
Call-Offs: Possible depending on census
Floating
Primary: L&D and Postpartum
May float hospital-wide for sitter shifts (travelers first to float)
Dress Code
RNs: Navy scrubs
CNAs: Maroon scrubs
Orientation
3-day orientation with preceptor (L&D + PP/MB)
Labor & Delivery / Postpartum Unit Summary
Unit Overview
L&D Beds: 11 rooms (double as triage rooms).
Triage Rooms: 2 designated triage rooms; typically see 4–5 triage patients/day (not including admissions).
OR Suites:
2 C-Section OR suites on the unit
2 PACU recovery bays on the unit
Postpartum (PP/MB) Beds: 17 beds
NICU: Level III NICU (supports 30+ week gestations)
Patient Volume
Deliveries per day: 5–6 on average
Deliveries per month: 150–180
Gestational Age: 30+ weeks delivered onsite; <30 weeks stabilized and transferred
Common Diagnoses: High-risk OB, antepartum complications, labor, postpartum recovery
Staffing & Ratios
AWHONN Ratios Followed:
1:1 Intrapartum
1:1–3 Antepartum
1:3–4 Postpartum/Mother-Baby
Charge Nurse: Does not take patients unless absolutely necessary
Resource Nurse: Assists unit-wide; no patient assignment unless needed
CST: In-house 24/7
CNAs: In Postpartum; assist with vitals, ADLs, baths, glucose checks, tasks, etc.
Tele Monitoring: Tele Techs available; RNs should recognize rhythm changes but do not fully interpret strips.
Required Certifications

AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring or NCC Certified in Fetal Monitoring
