Description

Required Skills / Experience

  • Must have 3 years of L&D experience
  • Mother-baby experience required (prefer 1 year)
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Must be able to:
    • Attend deliveries & complete the first hour of newborn care
    • Triage
    • Circulate C-sections
    • Provide postpartum couplet care
    • Manage magnesium
  • Charge nurse experience preferred

 

Required Certifications

ACLS, BLS, NRP, Stable

Shift Notes

7p-7a weekends as needed, Float to all St. Lukes Treasure Valley Sites-Meridian, Nampa, Boise in primary skill set (L&D/Mother Baby) or as a sitter.

 

 

Unit Notes – LDRP | RN

Department: LDRP
Experience Requirement: Will accept 1 year experience

Unit Structure

  • LDRP Beds: 14 (patients remain in same room throughout stay)
  • OR Suites for C-Sections: 2 suites (RNs circulate & recover)
  • Triage Beds: 4 (travel RNs will staff)

Birth Volume

  • 90 births/month
  • 1,200 births/year

Staffing & Ratios

  • Follows AWHONN Staffing Standards
    • Labor: 1:1 unless pairing 2 cervical ripening patients
    • Postpartum: 1:3 couplets
    • Triage: 1:3 (resource nurse supports if 4 patients)

Required Certifications

  • NPR
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • STABLE

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

  • 32+ weeks gestation
  • HTN patients on magnesium
  • BACs, TOLACs
  • Some gestational diabetes
  • High volume of out-of-hospital midwife patients presenting for medical intervention or pain control
  • Some antepartum patients
  • Do NOT accept: Placenta previa or accreta
  • Very diverse patient population

 

Drips

  • RNs are required to titrate drips
  • Common drips:
    • Pitocin (titrated per protocol)
    • Magnesium
    • Insulin drips (occasional)

Staffing Model

  • Admin Supervisor present every shift
  • Charge RN: No patient assignment
  • Resource RN + Triage RN:
    • May start shift without assignment
    • Triage fills quickly
    • Resource RN:
      • Helps with breaks
      • Attends all deliveries (“baby catcher”)
      • Stabilizes newborn, completes physical assessment + care in first 2 hours
      • Acts as second sign-off for medications

Support Staff

  • 1 CST per shift
  • 1 CNA per shift
    • If HUC calls out, CNA covers HUC role → may result in no CNA coverage

Providers

  • OB Hospitalist 24/7
  • Neonatal NP 24/7
  • Anesthesia in-house 24/7

Monitoring & Equipment

  • RT available for troubleshooting (vents/CPAP/BiPAP/high flow as needed)
  • No tele techs; unit has tele capability but rarely used
  • EFM System: Centricity

Scheduling

  • Shifts: 7a–7p, 7p–7a
  • Resource & Charge: 0645–1845 / 1845–0645
  • Travelers:
    • First schedule → fill holes
    • Subsequent schedules → may request preferences (not guaranteed)
    • No block scheduling guaranteed
    • Cannot work 6 shifts in a row

Weekend / Holiday / Call

  • Weekend Requirements: None (based on needs)
  • Holiday Requirements: None set for travelers; may work if needed
  • Call: No call requirement

Floating

  • Travelers float to all St. Luke’s Treasure Valley sites:
    • Meridian
    • Nampa
    • Boise
  • Float within primary skill set (L&D, postpartum, antepartum) or as sitter

Dress Code

  • Facility-issued scrubs required
  • Must change in/out at start and end of shift
  • No nail lacquer, acrylics, or gel nails due to NICU rooms embedded in LDRP

Orientation

  • 4 shifts of unit-specific orientation
    • Includes C-section, labor, and postpartum orientation
  • EPIC/Curio + compliance required before start

Additional Notes

  • Travelers frequently extend or return
  • Travel pairs must have two cars (possible different site assignments or floating)
  • Scrub colors vary by site; this is the only LDRP site

Radius Rule

Facility radius rule: 50 miles.
Permanent address must be provided in submittal to confirm >50 miles before profile review.
