Inpatient Social Worker (ED & Medical Inpatient)

Position Summary

The Inpatient Social Worker provides clinical social work services within the Emergency Department (ED) and medical inpatient units. This role supports patients and families through assessment, crisis intervention, discharge planning, and coordination of resources to ensure safe and effective transitions of care.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide social work coverage for the Emergency Department and medical inpatient units.
• Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop appropriate care and discharge plans.
• Deliver crisis intervention, including risk assessments and safety planning.
• Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Assist patients and families in accessing community resources, support services, and follow-up care.
• Document all assessments, interventions, and care plans in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards.
• Participate in weekend coverage as part of a rotational schedule.

Education & Licensure Requirements

• LMSW or LCSW-C required.
• Active Maryland (MD) social work license must be in hand prior to start date.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience in acute care, emergency care, or medical inpatient settings preferred.
• Strong crisis-management, communication, and clinical assessment skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in fast-paced and high-acuity environments.
