Department: LDRP / Level I Nursery & OB Unit Float Requirements: Med-Surg / Pediatrics Certifications Required: BLS, NRP Preferred: ACLS, STABLE, TNCC Clinical Involvement: No clinical involvement restrictions listed Unit Details L&D Beds: 4 C-Section Process: C-sections are performed in the main OR. Labor RNs accompany the patient to the OR, assist with baby stabilization, and return to the nursery until the mother is back (typically 30–45 minutes). Recovery (2 hours) is completed on the unit. Triage Beds: 1 Postpartum Beds: 4 (L&D beds are utilized) Annual Births: ~250 births per year Ratios (AWHONN-guideline-based): 1:2 couplet; adjusted if laboring Common Patient Types Preeclampsia Cholestasis of pregnancy Repeat C-sections Newborn stabilization for transport Required Skills Labor & Delivery Nursery Newborn stabilization Ability to float to Med-Surg/Peds Ability to titrate drips Common Drips Pitocin Magnesium sulfate Ampicillin & Gentamicin for babies Staffing & Support Charge Nurse: No designated charge; hospital coordinator and OB coordinator may assist Aides/Surgical Techs: None OB/Neonatologist: Not in-house 24/7 (Level I Nursery) Anesthesia: On call; located within a few blocks Respiratory Equipment: Nasal cannula, some CPAP (RN troubleshooting only) Telemetry: Rare use; physicians read strips EFM: GE Corometrics Scheduling Shifts: 06:45–19:15 18:45–07:15 Self-Scheduling: Yes; scheduling filled based on unit needs Weekend Requirements: As needed Holiday Requirements: As needed Floating: To Med-Surg/Peds; occasionally to ER if comfortable Scrubs: Navy Orientation: 1 week Additional Notes This is a supportive unit with strong teamwork between nurses and physicians. Ideal candidates are hardworking, flexible, team-oriented, and have excellent communication skills. Compliance & Radius Radius Rule: 50 miles Candidate Restrictions: Cannot be FT/PT/PRN with any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI or Dignity) RTO: Must be submitted upfront (7 days or fewer per 13-week contract).
