Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (OR RN)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years required
  • Accepts first-time travelers with 2 years experience
  • Float Requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • On Call: 6 calls per 6-week schedule
  • Weekend: 1 weekend shift per 6-week schedule
  • Scrub Color: Ceil blue (not provided)
  • Flu Vaccine: Required for all employees

Licensure & Certifications

  • Licensure:

    • Pending DC license accepted at submission (proof required)
    • Must have DC license in hand prior to start date
  • Required Certifications:

    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
    • State License verification prior to start
  • Preferred Certifications:

    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)


Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:

    • Criminal background check within 90 days including all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start and monthly thereafter
    • Education verification of highest degree required by position
  • Health Requirements:

    • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
    • N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, updated annually
    • Documentation of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
    • Varicella immunity documentation or vaccination
    • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), updated annually
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept-Mar)
  • Competency Exams:

    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 3 years, minimum 80% score
    • Color blindness testing (online or in-person)
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for specific units, with remediation process if needed
  • References & Work History:

    • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
    • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education and license information
    • Verification of minimum 2 years employment in past 7 years, including at least 1 travel assignment or 1 month per diem

Additional Notes

  • Must provide clear photo for badge with specific requirements (face centered, no glare, solid background)
  • Completion of facility-specific modules (SITELS) required before start date
  • Drug screen, background check, and I9/E-Verify attestations required and completed by credentialing staff
  • Facility requires all employees to have the flu vaccine or approved exemption
  • Float requirement within units of equivalent or lower acuity

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity OR setting with a variety of specialty procedures and requires strong flexibility and compliance with healthcare facility standards.
