Registered Nurse – CVICU (Travel Assignment)

Location: New Brunswick, NJ 08901 

Start Date: January 5, 2026 

Duration: 13 weeks 

Shift: Night, 3x12-hour (19:00 – 07:30)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced CVICU Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in New Brunswick, NJ. This role involves caring for complex cardiovascular patients, including fresh open-heart cases, and requires strong critical care skills. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in CVICU and float to ICUs, PACU, ED (ICU holding patients), and IMC units as needed
• Manage patients with fresh open hearts (CABG, MVR, AVR, TAVR) and post-op recovery
• Assist with BiPAP/CPAP, chest tube insertion/removal, and ventilator management
• Perform and interpret 12-lead EKGs
• Monitor and manage Swan-Ganz catheters, FloTrac, temporary pacers, arterial lines, and chest tubes
• Care for patients with advanced devices such as Impella, IABP, and CRRT (Prismaflex)
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
• Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to hospital protocols

Patient Mix

• Fresh open-heart surgical patients
• Ventilated patients
• Chest tubes and lumbar drains
• Chronic and acute renal failure cases

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years acute care experience
• CVICU experience with fresh open hearts required (SICU experience may be considered with CVICU training)
• Must be available to work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (required); Stroke CEUs (preferred)
• Active NJ RN License (required)
