Position Overview

This position supports a fast-paced orthopedic and neuro spine MS/Tele unit caring for post-surgical, trauma, and general med-surg patients. Nurses must demonstrate strong pain management skills, telemetry competency, and the ability to manage a diverse, high-volume caseload.

Required Qualifications

• Experience:
  • 2 years of acute inpatient experience (HARDSTOP)
  • 1 year Orthopedics experience required (can screen if less than one-year ortho)
  • First-time travelers accepted with Epic experience
• Skills:
  • Telemetry
  • IV starts
  • Peripheral & central line care
  • Blood product administration
  • Isolation precautions
  • Non-invasive airway management
• Certifications:
  • BLS
  • NIHSS

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS
• Level I trauma experience
• Previous charge nurse experience
• Experience with:
  • External CPAP/BiPAP
  • HFNC
  • Heparin protocols
  • Peripheral nerve block catheters
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation/management

• Patient Population: Orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, post-surgical
• Daily Census: 22
• Beds: 27
• Room Count: 27
• Interdisciplinary Support: PT, RT, pharmacy, IV team, phlebotomy, radiology, transport, interpreter services, RRT
• Typical Diagnoses:
  • Total joints
  • Ortho trauma
  • Hip & trauma hips
  • Post-op neuro spine
  • General med-surg
  • COVID patients may be present; no longer cohorted

Job Duties

• Provide care to orthopedic, spine, and med-surg patients
• Heavy pain management, PCA management
• Telemetry monitoring & interpretation
• Manage surgical drains and post-op care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
• Maintain high patient satisfaction and customer service standards

Schedule & Requirements

• Shift: Nights, 18:45–07:15
• Hours: 36 or 48 hrs/week
  • If choosing 48 hrs, OT begins after 48 hrs
• Weekends:
  • Every other weekend required
  • If a weekend shift is called out, the nurse must make it up on another weekend
• Floating:
  • Required
  • May float to any med-surg unit in the facility based on census
• Scheduling Type: Self-scheduling
  • Block options available (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
• Orientation: 36 hours

• W2: $22
• Stipend: $1246
