Cardiovascular Operating Room Registered Nurse (CVOR RN)
The CVOR RN provides specialized perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures in a high acuity surgical setting. This role supports safe care before, during, and immediately after complex cardiac operations.
Responsibilities
• Perform pre operative assessments, verify consents, allergies, and required testing, and complete safety checklists for cardiovascular cases
• Circulate and, when applicable, scrub for open heart, vascular, and other cardiovascular procedures, ensuring sterile technique, correct positioning, and patient safety throughout the case
• Prepare and manage CVOR equipment, instruments, and supplies, assist the surgical and anesthesia teams intraoperatively, manage specimens, and maintain accurate counts of instruments and sharps
• Provide detailed handoff and report to PACU or ICU and complete timely, accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
Requirements
• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice or compact
• Minimum 2 years of recent CVOR or cardiac OR nursing experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Strong knowledge of cardiovascular surgical procedures, sterile technique, and perioperative safety standards
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary cardiac surgery team
