**Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery
Summary of Duties & Responsibilities**
Role Overview:
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized, evidence-based nursing care to individuals and families across the perinatal spectrum. Using principles from biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences, the RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care. Care is delivered within The Christ Hospital (TCH) model of care, emphasizing patient-family partnership, cultural sensitivity, and age-appropriate interventions. The RN adheres to the ANA Code of Ethics and the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.
Primary Duties
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and provide individualized, culturally competent care to laboring patients, high-risk maternal patients, and postpartum surgical patients.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans based on clinical findings and best practice standards.
- Manage and monitor patients throughout labor, delivery, stabilization, and postoperative recovery.
- Triage ambulatory and emergent obstetric patients, determining appropriate disposition including admission, continued observation, or transfer to a Level III facility.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate safe and effective patient care.
- Educate patients and families regarding care plans, procedures, newborn care, and postpartum expectations.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow established communication channels with team members.
- Demonstrate professional growth through ongoing competency development and the integration of new clinical practices.
- Adapt to workflow changes and provide care within a culturally diverse environment.
Unit Description – Labor & Delivery
- 29-bed Labor & Delivery unit managing ~3,100 deliveries and ~2,100 ambulatory visits annually.
- Patient population includes newborns, teens, young adults, and adults.
- Unit includes 12 L&D beds, 4 high-risk antepartum beds, 3 postoperative recovery beds, 3 surgical suites, and a 4-bed triage unit.
- Provides care from triage through delivery, stabilization, and transfer when needed.

Education & Licensure
Required
- Diploma in Nursing
- Active Ohio RN License or Compact License
- BLS certification (American Heart Association)
