Description
Experience Requirements: Must have 1yr of exp in the ER and 1yr exp in Psych(Hospital preferred)
Must have experience with assessments to determine disposition for psych patients as well as experience working with violent patients |
PLS nurses have three primary responsibilities:
1) Direct Patient Care: Provide primary nursing care to two high-risk psychiatric patients in the ED, including medication administration, restraint use, de-escalation, and coordinating inpatient or state hospital placement.
2) Psychiatric Evaluation: Assess all psych patients entering the ER, determine appropriate disposition (e.g., inpatient, discharge, involuntary hold), and coordinate necessary steps like placement, safety planning, and transport.
3) Crisis Response - Respond to Behavioral Response Team (BRT) calls across the hospital to manage escalated patients through de-escalation, setting limits, restraint, and supporting bedside staff alongside police and nurse managers.
License/ Certification Requirements: KS or Compact RN | BLS
Weekend Requirements: Not required may be asked to work 1-2 a month
Holiday Requirements: Required based on unit needs
