Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Albany, Georgia

Job Details

  • Specialty: Respiratory Therapy (RRT)
  • Location: Albany, GA
  • Contract Length: 17 weeks (approximately 4 months)
  • Setting: ICU and ER in a large hospital (300+ beds)
  • Shift Times:
    • 6:45 AM and 6:45 PM start times
    • Clock-in window: 6:38-6:46 AM or PM
    • Weekend shifts: M-Thurs team or Fri-Sun team (hours vary)
  • Call: None
  • Holidays: Rotated with permanent staff; expect every other holiday
  • Scrub Color: Ceil blue (jacket also ceil blue)
  • EMR System: Meditech
  • Ventilators: Servo vents (U and I models)
  • In-House Support: Hospitalist or Intensivist available 24/7 (MDs or NPs)
  • Pharmacy: 24/7 availability

Requirements

  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Georgia Respiratory Therapist license
    • RRT credential
    • BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications
    • NRP required if assigned to NICU
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapy experience
    • Minimum 2 years of critical care experience required for ICU roles
    • Must have completed at least 1 prior travel contract
    • Experience in a hospital with 300+ beds preferred
  • Skills:
    • Comfortable and experienced with intubation (first line for intubating patients)
    • Ability to manage high and heavy workloads
    • Able to work adult ICU and manage ventilators confidently
    • Able to perform A-line placement, blood gas management, bronchoscopy
    • Must be confident in reading ABGs and making ventilator management suggestions
  • Additional:
    • Must be able to work in a strict 75-mile radius
    • Charge RT responsibilities including running charge and clinical coordinator roles

Patient Population & Duties

  • Patient Types: Adults, pediatrics, and neonates (NICU RTs are separate and under nursing management)
  • Typical Duties:
    • Nebulizer treatments, airway management, vapotherm, BiPAP, CPAP, ventilator management
    • ABG collection, bedside pulmonary function tests, chest physiotherapy
    • ICU-specific duties: A-line placement, blood gas management, intubation, bronchoscopy
  • Common Patient Conditions: COPD, CHF, pneumonia, respiratory failure, ARDS, cancers, etc.
  • Workload:
    • Average 13-15 patients per shift
    • Approximately 550 treatment minutes per shift (about 15 minutes per treatment)
    • ICU therapists may manage up to 4 airways per shift

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation:
    • Floor assignments: 1 week hospital/charting orientation, then gradual increase in treatment minutes over following days
    • ICU assignments: Additional week of orientation
  • Interview Process:
    • Interview with internal RNs; no second interview required after internal approval

This position is ideal for experienced RRTs comfortable with critical care, intubation, and managing a high patient load in a fast-paced ICU/ER environment. Prior travel experience and strong clinical skills are essential.
