Travel RN - Corrections

Location: Estancia, NM

Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: Nights 

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute licensed independent provider’s orders accurately and efficiently.
• Dispense and administer medications in accordance with facility policies and procedures, documenting all actions thoroughly.
• Assist licensed providers during inmate/resident examinations, preparing exam rooms and equipment, and supporting clinical procedures.
• Conduct sick call evaluations; assess new inmates/residents presenting with illnesses or injuries, and coordinate emergency care or referrals as needed.
• Monitor inpatient hospitalizations, noting early discharges when appropriate.
• Collaborate with contract medical personnel and external healthcare providers to ensure seamless delivery of services.
• Supervise, guide, and monitor the nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nurses and non-licensed staff.
• Maintain the security, confidentiality, and accuracy of all medical records and documentation.
• Conduct routine safety inspections of the medical unit, disposing of contraband, and securing supplies.
• Provide health education and counseling to inmates/residents individually or in groups.
• Participate in facility accreditation processes (NCCHC, ACA, JCAHO) by ensuring compliance with all standards.
• Prepare, review, and maintain operational, statistical, and legal records; assist in preparing reports and documentation.
• Observe, record, and report inmate/resident behavior and conditions, especially in cases of potential emergencies.
• Audit pharmacy procedures to ensure formulary adherence and compliance with controlled substance laws.
• Assist with responding to legal actions, including attending court hearings if required.
• Coordinate and facilitate professional medical services involving contract personnel and external agencies.
• Lead efforts to uphold safety standards and respond to emergencies effectively.

Qualifications:

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program with an active, current state licensure as an RN.
• Minimum of one (1) year of professional nursing experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• CPR and first aid certifications are strongly recommended.
