Travel RN - Corrections

Location: Moundsville, WV

Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: Nights (Every other weekend/Rotating Holidays)

Key Responsibilities

• Comprehensive Patient Care: Conduct thorough assessments, develop individualized care plans, and implement nursing interventions for inmates, including screening, medication delivery, and health education.
• Leadership & Collaboration: Supervise and coordinate with LPNs, CNAs, and other healthcare paraprofessionals to ensure efficient, safe patient care.
• Medical Procedures & Emergency Response: Assist with minor medical and surgical procedures, respond promptly to medical emergencies, and provide first aid or triage as necessary.
• Medication Management: Administer medications via various routes—including IV, IM, and oral—following physician orders and ensuring proper documentation.
• Health Monitoring & Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records utilizing the Problem-Oriented Medical Record (POMR) system; document all nursing encounters and assessments.
• Patient Advocacy & Education: Deliver health education tailored to individual needs, addressing physical, psychological, and behavioral health factors.
• Collaborative Care Planning: Utilize treatment protocols, coordinate referrals, and collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and correctional staff to deliver holistic care.
• Infection Control & Safety: Follow aseptic techniques and infection control standards to safeguard patient and staff health.
• Professional Development: Participate in continuing education, in-service training, and quality assurance activities to maintain clinical excellence and compliance.

Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state.
• Proven experience in medical-surgical, emergency, or correctional healthcare preferred.
• Strong knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutic diets, and infection control practices.
• Ability to respond effectively in high-pressure situations, including CPR certification.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to patient advocacy.
• Knowledge of social and behavioral sciences as they relate to the correctional environment.
• Ability to document accurately and maintain confidentiality of inmate records.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts and adapt to the dynamic correctional setting.
