• Department: Emergency Room
• Trauma Level:
  • Stroke & STEMI receiving
  • Level II Trauma – Adults & Pediatrics
• Beds: 35 total
  • Trauma Bays: 2
• Fast Track: Yes – 8 beds
• Triage: Separate triage area
  • Travelers may triage
  • Uses ESI triage algorithm
• Holding Area: Intermixed within ER
• Psych/Seclusion Rooms: Yes (staffed by ER nurses)
• Security: 24/7 (stationed in ER during peak times)

Patient Volume & Ratios

• Average ER volume: ~111 patients/day
• Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:4

Patient Population & Diagnoses

• High-acuity, diverse case mix including:
  • GSW, violent crime
  • Stroke, STEMI
  • Trauma patients
  • Mental health emergencies
  • Pediatrics: respiratory illness, fractures
• Travelers may work trauma if experienced

Clinical Support & Equipment

• Common Drips: All critical care drips
• Providers: MDs and Mid-Levels
  • Peak coverage: 2 MDs + 3 Mid-Levels
• Charge Nurse: Team lead 24/7
• Support Staff:
  • LPNs (nights)
  • Techs & paramedics (IVs, tech duties)
• Labs/EKGs: Performed by RNs and Techs
• Respiratory Therapy:
  • 24/7 coverage
  • Responds to all codes
  • Manages all RT equipment (not housed in ER)
• Telemetry: ER nurses monitor/read strips
• Imaging:
  • X-Ray & CT next door
  • RN transports critical patients
  • Transport available 9a–9p, RN transport after 9p

Scheduling

• Shift Lengths: 5–12 hours
• Start Times: 6a, 8a, 10a, 12p, 1p, 3p, 6p
• Scheduling: Set by manager; block scheduling attempted
• Weekends: Every other
• Holidays: Every other
• Call/Standby: None
• Floating: None

Orientation & Dress Code

• Orientation: 1 × 12-hour unit-specific shift
