Job Summary

The Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders. The RN works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary treatment team to assess patient needs, administer medications, develop care plans, and promote patient safety, recovery, and emotional well-being.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessments
• Monitor patients for changes in mental, emotional, and physical status
• Administer and monitor psychotropic medications and treatments
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
• Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, medications, and coping strategies
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and staff
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals
• Participate in treatment team meetings and discharge planning
• Uphold patient rights, confidentiality, and ethical nursing standards
• Follow all facility policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
• Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ADN or BSN)
• Minimum of 2 years current Behavioral Health experience
• CPR/BLS certification (AHA)
• Knowledge of psychiatric medications and mental health diagnoses
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and therapeutic skills
• Ability to manage challenging behaviors and stressful situations
