Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Scrub Technician to support surgical teams in a fast-paced operating room environment. Working under the direct supervision of a surgeon, the Scrub Tech plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and sterile surgical procedures while anticipating the needs of the surgical team to maximize patient safety and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and verify supplies, instruments, and equipment prior to surgical procedures
  • Perform surgical hand scrubs and gown/glove self, surgeons, and assistants
  • Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique throughout procedures
  • Assist with draping the sterile field and passing instruments to the surgeon
  • Perform surgical counts with the circulating staff before incision and prior to closure
  • Assist with terminal cleaning of the operating room following procedures
  • Clean, prepare, and organize instruments for terminal sterilization
  • Prepare the surgical suite for subsequent cases
  • Support orientation and training of new staff and students in the Scrub Tech role

Scope of Practice

  • Does not function as a circulating nurse or first assistant
  • Does not administer medications
  • Does not complete patient medical records

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Trade or Technical School (Certificate or Diploma)
  • Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent Scrub Technician experience
  • Active and unrestricted state license (if applicable)
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile techniques

  • Holiday coverage required
  • EMR system used: EPIC
  • Orientation hours may be unpaid
  • Contract may allow limited shift cancellations per assignment terms
