Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Scrub Technician to support surgical teams in a fast-paced operating room environment. Working under the direct supervision of a surgeon, the Scrub Tech plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and sterile surgical procedures while anticipating the needs of the surgical team to maximize patient safety and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and verify supplies, instruments, and equipment prior to surgical procedures
- Perform surgical hand scrubs and gown/glove self, surgeons, and assistants
- Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique throughout procedures
- Assist with draping the sterile field and passing instruments to the surgeon
- Perform surgical counts with the circulating staff before incision and prior to closure
- Assist with terminal cleaning of the operating room following procedures
- Clean, prepare, and organize instruments for terminal sterilization
- Prepare the surgical suite for subsequent cases
- Support orientation and training of new staff and students in the Scrub Tech role
Scope of Practice
- Does not function as a circulating nurse or first assistant
- Does not administer medications
- Does not complete patient medical records
Requirements
- Graduate of a Trade or Technical School (Certificate or Diploma)
- Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- Minimum of 3 years of recent Scrub Technician experience
- Active and unrestricted state license (if applicable)
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile techniques
Additional Information
- Holiday coverage required
- EMR system used: EPIC
- Orientation hours may be unpaid
- Contract may allow limited shift cancellations per assignment terms
