Description

The Med Surg Registered Nurse (W.E.S.T. Float Team) is a highly skilled, adaptable clinician who delivers safe, high-quality, patient-centered care across multiple Wellstar campuses during night shift hours. As a core member of the W.E.S.T. Float Team, this RN plays a vital role in supporting staffing needs, maintaining care excellence, and ensuring consistent nursing standards across medical-surgical units. The role emphasizes clinical excellence, teamwork, evidence-based practice, and professional growth while providing diverse and dynamic patient care experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice & Patient Outcomes

  • Independently manage the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to deliver individualized, evidence-based care.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, respecting cultural, spiritual, and personal care preferences.
  • Apply current clinical standards and best practices to achieve optimal patient outcomes in fast-paced medical-surgical environments.

Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork and shared accountability.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care and support patient flow.
  • Actively participate in shared governance, performance improvement initiatives, and unit-based projects.

Professional Development & Mentorship

  • Maintain clinical competency through ongoing education, skills validation, and certification requirements.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for fellow nurses and interdisciplinary team members, supporting staff engagement and retention.

Evidence-Based Practice & Quality Improvement

  • Integrate evidence-based practices into daily patient care and unit workflows.
  • Participate in research, value analysis, and quality initiatives that enhance patient safety and care delivery.
  • Utilize data and performance metrics to support continuous improvement.

Resource Management & Care Planning

  • Proactively plan and coordinate patient care across the continuum, ensuring timely interventions and smooth transitions.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of protocols aimed at reducing readmissions and improving patient experiences.
  • Support the efficient and effective use of staffing, equipment, and clinical resources.
Education Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Required) Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (Preferred) Licensure & Certifications Active RN License (Single-State or Multi-State Compact) – Required Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Required National specialty certification – Preferred Experience Minimum of 2 years of recent Medical-Surgical nursing experience – Required Experience with computerized documentation and data entry – Required Familiarity with Epic and 3M systems – Preferred
