Description
ICU RN – Night Shift
Location: Acute Care Hospital | Trauma Level III
Unit: ICU
Charting System: EPIC
Job Details:
Unit Type: Intensive Care Unit (ICU – Medical/Surgical)
Care Setting: Acute
Shift: 12-hour night shifts
Schedule: 72 hours per pay period (bi-weekly)
Must be comfortable with a 24/48 schedule
Guaranteed Hours: 72 hours / 2 weeks / 36hrs/wk
Requirements:
Experience: Minimum 1 year ICU required
Preferred: 2.5–3 years ICU experience
First-time travelers accepted with strong ICU background
License: Active RN license (license to submit required)
Education: BSN not required
Certifications:
BLS
ACLS
Unit & Patient Details
Nurse Ratios:
ICU: 1:2 (sometimes 1:1)
Overflow PCU/Med Surg: 3–5:1 depending on CNA availability
Common Diagnoses:
General medical/surgical critical care
STEMI, pneumonia, COVID
DKA, CVA
ETOH withdrawal, overdose
Skills Required:
Ventilator management
Pressor management
Titration of drips
Preferred Experience:
IABP and Impella (preferred, not required)
Drips & Equipment
Common Drips: Precedex, insulin, epinephrine, norepinephrine, propofol
RT Coverage: In-house 24/7
Respiratory Equipment:
Ventilators, V60
BiPAP, CPAP
High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
Support & Coverage
Hospitalist: In-house 24/7
Intensivist: Available by page (not in-house 24/7)
Telemetry:
Central Monitoring Unit staffed 24/7
ICU & PCU have dedicated monitor techs
RNs interpret and verify strips
Charge Nurse: Takes patients
Nurse Aides: Available based on staffing and patient mix
Scheduling Requirements
Weekends: Required (typically every other weekend)
Holidays: Required
Floating:
To PCU (sister unit)
PCU and Med-Surg overflow cared for within ICU
Call/Standby: None
Dress Code
No specific scrub color; must be clean and professional
Important Notes
Client will complete a prescreen
Housing is extremely difficult with pets
Special housing request must be submitted prior to placement.
