Description
Job Title: Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDPT)
Department: Clinical Services
Employment Status: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Clinical Supervisor
Position Summary
The Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDPT) provides counseling and support services to individuals experiencing substance use disorders. This role delivers care in alignment with evidence-based practices, including ASAM Criteria, state WAC requirements, and established clinical guidelines. The position is designed to support professional development toward full Substance Use Disorder Professional credentialing.
This is a safety-sensitive position and may require controlled substance testing in accordance with state regulations.
Substance Use Disorder Professional
Core Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling while modeling healthy relationship and recovery-focused behaviors
- Conduct substance use assessments and assist with individualized treatment planning
- Communicate client progress, needs, and recommendations to interdisciplinary treatment teams and external agencies
- Apply ASAM assessment, placement, and continued-stay criteria appropriately
- Deliver client and family education through group sessions, written materials, and individualized instruction
- Complete accurate and timely documentation in compliance with Department of Health and WAC requirements
- Perform case reviews to evaluate client progress and treatment effectiveness
- Respond appropriately to crisis situations, including emotional or physical distress, and initiate emergency protocols when necessary
- Fulfill mandatory reporting requirements, including CPS and law enforcement notifications as applicable
- Coordinate referrals to appropriate community resources and levels of care
- Participate in clinical team meetings and training sessions
- Maintain current licensure, credentials, and continuing education documentation
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (preferred)
Experience
- Bilingual skills preferred
- No history of alcohol or drug misuse for at least two (2) years prior to employment and none during employment
- Trainees receive structured supervision and must complete required supervised hours:

- 1,500 hours (Master’s level)
- 2,000 hours (Bachelor’s level)
- 2,500 hours (Associate level)
Licensure & Certifications
- Must hold or be eligible for Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee credential per state requirements
- Valid driver’s license and active auto insurance requir
