Description
Job Title: Mental Health Counselor
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Yakima, WA
Position Summary
The Mental Health Counselor provides high-quality clinical care through comprehensive evaluations, individualized therapy, and group counseling services. This role is essential in determining appropriate diagnoses, developing effective treatment plans, and supporting clients in setting and achieving personal goals through evidence-based interventions and coping strategies.
The Mental Health Counselor demonstrates professionalism, empathy, and cultural responsiveness while upholding ethical standards of care. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct mental health evaluations and provide individual, family, and group counseling
- Utilize standardized assessment tools and clinical interviews to evaluate psychological functioning
- Present clinical findings and treatment recommendations verbally and in written documentation
- Maintain accurate, timely, and HIPAA-compliant clinical records
- Ensure compliance with quality assurance standards and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations
- Collaborate with internal teams and external service providers to support client well-being and continuity of care
- Maintain knowledge of legal and ethical responsibilities related to crisis response, mandated reporting, and emergency management
- Meet and maintain professional licensure and continuing education requirements
- Attend required meetings, trainings, supervision, and committee assignments
- Work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Social Work
Experience
- Previous clinical experience preferred; new graduates are encouraged to apply
- Knowledge of substance use disorders, including alcoholism and drug addiction
- Familiarity with ASAM criteria
- Understanding of long-term rehabilitation and recovery processes, including relapse prevention and post-treatment challenges
Licensure
- Must possess or be eligible to obtain an active professional license in good standing with the State Department of Health, including:
- Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)
- Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
- Mental Health Professional (MHP), as required by WAC
