Assistant Nurse Manager (RN) - Emergency Department !!
Assistant nurse manager is a registered professional nurse who provides support and works in conjunction with the nurse manager of a specific unit(s) or service. He/she is viewed as aspiring to be a nurse manager and through this role to learn additional knowledge and skills through experience and mentoring by the nurse manager and the hospital/system.
The assistant nurse manager must possess very good skills in communication and teamwork and serve as a mentor for others while learning the responsibilities of his/her role. Together with the nurse manager, the assistant nurse manager uses his/her knowledge and skills to promote the creation of a center of excellence for staff recruitment and retention and clinical and business outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Patient Care: Providing direct individualized patient care at an experienced practitioner level as required.
- Team Leadership: Overseeing the successful delivery of quality patient care, service excellence, and customer satisfaction.
- Staff Management: Ensuring adequate staffing levels and skill mix for all shifts through the development, preparation, and maintenance of staffing schedules.
- Operational Oversight: Monitoring all high-risk and complicated cases and taking appropriate actions.
- Communication: Anticipating and resolving patient/family concerns in a timely manner and protecting patient confidentiality.
- Performance Appraisal: Participating in the performance appraisal process and holding staff accountable for performance standards.
- Collaboration: Collaborating with the Nurse Manager and the Charge Nurse on areas of need on the unit.
- Resource Management: Keeping patients and families informed and serving as a resource and role model/mentor to charge nurses and staff.
