Travel Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN)- Oklahoma
American Consultants is looking for a travel behavioral health RN for a facility located outside Tulsa, OK. Looking for both a day shift and a night shift. Must have previous behavioral health experience.
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Travel Registered Nurse specializing in Behavioral Health to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this role, you will provide expert nursing care to patients experiencing mental health challenges across diverse clinical settings. Your responsibilities will include conducting comprehensive patient assessments, developing individualized care plans, and delivering evidence-based interventions to promote recovery and well-being. This position offers an exciting opportunity to travel to various healthcare facilities, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and community centers, while making a meaningful difference in patients' lives. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical experience in behavioral health nursing, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and be adaptable to different healthcare environments.
Duties
- Perform thorough patient assessments, including mental status examinations and vital signs, ensuring accurate documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Develop and implement personalized care plans tailored to each patient's behavioral health needs, incorporating best practices in trauma medicine, addiction treatment, and crisis intervention.
- Administer medications safely, including psychiatric drugs and injections, adhering strictly to aseptic techniques and HIPAA regulations.
- Monitor patients for acute pain management issues, suicidal ideation, or other psychiatric emergencies; respond promptly with appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including physicians, social workers, and case managers—to coordinate comprehensive treatment strategies.
- Educate patients and their families on mental health conditions, medication management, and coping strategies to support ongoing recovery.
- Maintain compliance with infection control protocols and ensure adherence to NCQA standards for quality care delivery.
- Assist in triage assessments for urgent behavioral health concerns within emergency room or urgent care settings.
- Facilitate discharge planning by coordinating follow-up services such as outpatient therapy or community resources.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly in EMR/EHR systems like Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical records management.
Requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the relevant state or jurisdiction.
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience in behavioral health nursing or related fields such as mental health inpatient units or outpatient clinics.
- Proven experience working with diverse populations including individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia (Alzheimer's care), or geriatrics.
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric medications, including administration and side effect management.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks.
- Competence in performing physical examinations and vital sign assessments accurately.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations effectively within trauma centers or emergency rooms; ICU experience is advantageous.
- Knowledge of ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9) for documentation purposes.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards.
- Additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) are preferred.
