Department Overview

Department: Interventional Radiology (IR Tech)
Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ARRT (R)(VI) certification
- Washington state license
- IV certification preferred
Radiation Badge: Traveler must provide their own

⚙️ Unit Setup

Rooms/Scanners: 3 total
- 2 biplane rooms
- 1 single plane room
- Always keep 1 room open for stroke cases
- Hybrid OR with CT/IR scanner (experience preferred but not mandatory)
Equipment: Philips systems
EMR/PACS: Cerner EMR, GE Centricity RIS, Philips Intellispace PACS

👩‍⚕️ Job Duties

Perform all IR procedures supporting neuro IR, vascular, and neurosurgeons
Scrub in and circulate during procedures
Participate in the call team
IV starts not required (done by IR RNs)

📋 Experience Requirements

Minimum: 1 year IR Tech experience
Preferred: Travel experience and stroke-receiving facility experience

📊 Case Volume

Daily cases: 10–20 procedures per day
Stroke cases: 1–4 per week
Staffing: 2 IR techs per room

👥 Team & Leadership

Lead IR Tech supervises
Techs integrated with nurses; charge nurse and nurse manager available
Radiology Director oversees department
Radiologists: In-house during the day, on-call at night
- 4 neuro radiologists
- 2 neurosurgeons
- 3 vascular surgeons
No RRAs (residents cover instead)

⏰ Shifts & Scheduling

Shift Length: 4x10s (four 10-hour shifts per week)
Shift Times: 7:00 am – 5:30 pm OR 7:30 am – 6:00 pm
Day Off: Rotates among staff

📅 Call Requirements

Weeknights:
- 1–2 days per week
- Call from 6:00 pm – 7:00 am
- Travelers choose 4 weeknight calls and 2 weekend calls per schedule
- Flexibility to swap call days with colleagues
- Call team: 2 RNs + 2 IR techs
Weekends:
- 1 weekend call per month
- Call runs Fri 6:00 pm – Mon 7:00 am
- Group of 9 staff rotate coverage
Holidays:
- If scheduled shift or call falls on a holiday, you work it
- Holiday pay provided
Response Time: 30 minutes

👕 Dress Code & Orientation

Scrubs: Provided by facility
Orientation:
Day 1: Modules (education, safety, infection control)
Week 1: Assigned preceptor for support
