Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a Transitional Care Unit (TCU) contract assignment. The RN will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to adult patients requiring continued medical management and recovery following acute hospitalization. This role requires flexibility, strong clinical skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic care environment.
Contract Details
- Assignment Length: 13-week contract
- Schedule: Varied shifts (TBD)
- Hours: Scheduled 36 hours per week following the first full week of orientation
- Must be flexible with shift lengths and days worked
- No guarantee of hours or shift preference
- Holiday coverage required
Licensure & Compliance Requirements
- Active Hawaii Registered Nurse license required by start of assignment
- Travelers without an active HI license must apply upon acceptance
- Proof of flu vaccination or an approved medical/religious exemption required prior to assignment
- Must arrive prior to contract start to complete employee health clearance, if applicable
Unit Information
- Unit Type: Transitional Care Unit (TCU)
- Unit Size: 32 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:
- Days: 1:8 nurses with 1:6 aides
- Nights: 1:8 nurses
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult transitional care patients
- Perform patient assessments, care planning, and documentation
- Manage and monitor medical equipment and devices
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams
- Maintain compliance with safety standards, policies, and procedures
Equipment & Skills
- EMR systems: Meditech and EPIC
- Equipment and care experience required:
- Pyxis
- Wound vacs
- Chest tubes
- Tube feedings
- NG/G-tubes
- Tracheostomy care
- PICC lines and ports
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience
- Experience range preferred: 2–10 years
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS not required for this unit unless mandated by agency policy
Floating Requirements
- May be required to float to Med-Surg and Surgical Pediatrics units
Dress Code
- Professional nursing attire
Orientation & Training
- Unit-specific orientation provided
