Unit Notes – IR RN

Unit & Case Details

• Total Suites/Labs: 7 rooms
  • 4 Cath Lab / EP rooms
  • 3 IR rooms
• Average Daily Case Volume: 20+ cases (across all rooms)
• Common Diagnoses / Procedures:
  • Port placements
  • Liver biopsies
  • IVC filter placements
  • G-tube placements
  • PICC & Central Line placements
  • Neuro IR cases (coiling, thrombectomy, embolizations)
  • Anesthesia supports Neuro cases

Job Duties

• Verify physician orders and patient consent
• Perform head-to-toe patient assessments
• Provide patient education and consent verification
• Set up procedure rooms
• Circulate cases
• Administer moderate sedation / assist anesthesia providers
• Continuous hemodynamic monitoring
• Accurate clinical documentation
• Coordinate care with multidisciplinary team

Experience / Must-Have Skills

• Minimum 2 years Cath Lab experience
• IABP experience required
• Specific experience dependent on unit utilization

EMR & Equipment

• EMR: Merge, Cerner

Staffing & Coverage

• Daily Staffing:
  • Cath Lab: 1 RN, 3 Techs
  • EP: 3–4 person team (varies)
  • IR: 1 RN, 2 Techs
  • Neuro cases supported by Anesthesia
• STEMI Call Team:
  • 4 members (1 RN, 3 Techs)
• Cardiologist On-Call: Yes

Leadership

• 2 Team Leads manage scheduling and staffing
• May assist with staffing if needed

Shifts & Scheduling

• Primary Schedule:
  • 4 × 10-hour shifts per week
  • Hours: 0700–1730
  • Rotating day off
• Alternate Schedule (Considered):
  • 5 × 8-hour shifts
  • Hours: 0700–1530

Call Requirements

• Weeknight Call:
  • Rotating, approx. once every 3 weekdays
• Weekend Call:
  • Rotating, once every 3 weekends (Fri–Mon)
• Holiday Call:
  • May be required
• Call Response Time: 30 minutes
