Description
Requirements
- Primary Unit: Level III NICU
- Must be proficient in critical care of neonates, including:
- Intubation (>22 weeks gestational age)
- Obtaining arterial blood samples
- Assisting in high-risk, low-volume bedside procedures
- Must also demonstrate adult critical care competencies, including:
- Adult intubation
- Airway management
- Arterial line insertion
Schedule & Assignment Details
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Call: None
- Floating:
- Within hospital and scope of practice
- May float to Piedmont Macon North Hospital as needed
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Minimum Experience: 2 years
- Unit accepts first-time travelers
- License:
- RRT REQUIRED
- CRT NOT ACCEPTED
- Locals accepted at the same rate
Certifications
- Required:
- RRT
- State License
- Preferred:
- ACLS
- BLS
- NRP
- PALS
Clinical Review & Interview Process
- Clinical screen required
- Candidate reviewed for clinical fit per Piedmont guidelines
- If passed, profile forwarded to manager for final decision
- Clinical screens sent on a case-by-case basis
Time Off & Holiday Requirements
- RTO: Maximum 7 days
- Holidays:
- If 1 major holiday falls within assignment → must work it
- If 2 major holidays fall → must work both
- If 3 major holidays fall → must work 2 of 3
Major Holidays Include:
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving / Black Friday
- Christmas Eve / Christmas Day
- New Year’s Eve / New Year’s Day
Compliance Requirements
- FULL compliance required to start on time
- If compliance is not met, start date will be pushed back 2 weeks due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
- Non-billable orientation hours depend on contract length
- Example:
- 8-week assignment → 8 hours
- 10-week assignment → 10 hours

- Pulmonary hygiene and sputum collection
Neonatal & Pediatric Skills
- Assist in high-risk deliveries
- Umbilical blood gases
Medication Administration
- Aerosolized and inhaled medications
- Nitric Oxide (iNO) (preferred)
- Inhaled Flolan (preferred)
- Racemic epinephrine
- Albuterol, Atrovent, Pulmicort, Xopenex, and others
Oxygen Delivery Systems
- High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Trach collar
- Nebulizers (handheld, T-piece, trach collar)
