Description
Job Summary
The Registered OB/GYN Sonographer performs clinical ultrasound imaging in an outpatient office setting under the direction of the physician and supervision of the clinical manager. The role focuses on providing high-quality obstetric and gynecological ultrasound services in accordance with AIUM and ACOG guidelines. Responsibilities include patient care, accurate documentation, equipment maintenance, and collaboration with the care team.
Responsibilities
Perform obstetric and gynecological ultrasound examinations following established protocols
Produce high-quality diagnostic images and ensure accurate data collection
Prepare patients and assist physicians during ultrasound-guided procedures
Obtain patient history and assess physical, psychosocial, and educational needs prior to exams
Confirm accuracy and completeness of exam orders and supporting documentation
Explain procedures clearly to patients, families, and staff as needed
Maintain efficient workflow and assist team members when required
Ensure accurate and timely order entry and exam tracking in the HIS
Maintain proficiency with PACS, structured reporting, and image archival systems
Follow HIPAA, infection control, safety, and departmental policies
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
Communicate equipment maintenance needs and operate equipment safely
Participate in peer review, department meetings, and process improvement initiatives
Comply with attendance, parking, tobacco-free, and workplace conduct policies
Requirements
Experience
Minimum 1 year of high-risk or office-based OB/GYN ultrasound experience
Experience with real-time ultrasound techniques including M-mode, pulse Doppler, and color Doppler
Strong understanding of fetal anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, and medical terminology
Ability to provide relevant technical information to interpreting physicians
Familiarity with PACS and structured reporting systems
Strong customer service and communication skills
Education
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Ultrasound or Allied Health
OR Graduate of an accredited ultrasound training program
Completion of 30 CEUs through ARDMS every 3 years
Licenses & Certifications
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) – Obstetrics and Gynecology
BLS (American Heart Association)
