Position Title

Clinical Staff / Ambulatory Pharmacist

Position Summary

The Clinical Staff/Ambulatory Pharmacist provides comprehensive patient care through inpatient pharmacy services, including medication order entry and verification, medication preparation and dispensing, and other duties that promote the safe and effective use of medications.

The pharmacist may also rotate into ambulatory care roles (e.g., anticoagulation clinic, oncology, or other specialty services) as determined by the Pharmacy Manager.

This role supports a diverse patient population, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform inpatient pharmacy functions, including:
    • Medication order entry and verification
    • Medication checking and dispensing
    • Ensuring safe and effective medication use
  • Participate in patient care activities across multiple patient populations
  • Rotate into ambulatory pharmacy services as assigned (e.g., anticoagulation clinic, oncology)
  • Collaborate effectively with:
    • Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
    • Physicians and advanced practice providers
    • Nurses and other healthcare team members
    • Health system staff and medical sales representatives
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable state and federal pharmacy laws

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (required)
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) (preferred)

Experience

  • Recent hospital pharmacy experience (preferred)
  • Pharmacy residency experience (preferred for ambulatory rotation)
  • Advanced practice certifications (preferred)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current state and federal laws governing pharmacy practice
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team

Licensure / Certification

  • Current license issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy, or
  • Eligibility for pharmacist licensure reciprocity in Pennsylvania within 90 days of hire
  • If rotating to the Anticoagulation Clinic:
    • Meets American Heart Association (AHA) standards for Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • BLS certification renewed every two years
