Description

Experience Requirements: Must have 1yr of exp in the ER and min 1yr exp in Psych           (Hospital preferred) . Must have experience with assessments to determine disposition for psych patients as well as experience working with violent patients.

Three primary responsibilities:

1) Direct Patient Care: Provide primary nursing care to two high-risk psychiatric patients in the ED, including medication administration, restraint use, de-escalation, and coordinating inpatient or state hospital placement.

2) Psychiatric Evaluation: Assess all psych patients entering the ER, determine appropriate disposition (e.g., inpatient, discharge, involuntary hold), and coordinate necessary steps like placement, safety planning, and transport.

3) Crisis Response: Respond to Behavioral Response Team (BRT) calls across the hospital to manage escalated patients through de-escalation, setting limits, restraint, and supporting bedside staff alongside police and nurse managers.

License/ Certification Requirements: KS or Compact RN | BLS

No Weekends/ No On Call/ No new Grads

Notes: This is a highly independent role where ED physicians rely on the THP’s psychiatric assessment and disposition plan after medical clearance. Strong psych nursing skills are essential, and more experience is required due to the ED setting

KU is a nicotine free facility and on a bi-weekly pay period | Client allowed 2  cancellations per month with a minimum 2 hour notice
