Description

Position Overview

The RN will work on 5 South – Hematology/Oncology, a 32-bed Med/Surg unit caring for hem/onc and chemotherapy patients in a high-acuity, Level 1 trauma environment.

Required Skills & Experience

Minimum 2 years RN experience
Level 1 trauma experience required
BLS Required.
Experience in large facilities with high-acuity and surgical patient populations
Comfortable managing lines, chest tubes, and complex patients
Hem/Onc and chemotherapy experience preferred (training provided if needed)
Ability to manage heparin drips
- Amiodarone may be initiated, then patient transferred to cardiac unit

Cardiac drips managed on 3 South only

Unit Details

Unit: 5 South – Hematology/Oncology
Beds: 32
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5; may increase to 1:6 depending on census and acuity (adjusted down for higher-acuity patients)
Patient Population: Hematology/Oncology, chemotherapy patients
Oncology Certification: Not required (hem/onc experience preferred)

Charting System: EPIC (EPIC proficiency required)

Floating

Floating required within skill set to all Med/Surg units
Higher-acuity patients assigned to core staff
