L&D RN
Job Summary:
Antepartum:
-Assess all triage patients >20 weeks.
-Use obstetric triage acuity tools.
-Labor assessment and evaluation.
-Fetal evaluation and assessment.
-Evaluation for labor at term, PTL signs, s/s of preeclampsia, rupture of membranes, decreased fetal movement, preterm premature rupture of membranes, vaginal bleeding, acute and critical conditions, such as MVA, large abruptio placentae.
-If emergency medical condition is determined to exist, must stabilize the patient for delivery or transfer to higher level of care if needed. Intrapartum:
-Labor assessment, evaluation, and care.
-Fetal evaluation and assessment.
-Preparation of expectant mother for safe delivery.
-Administration of medications including but not limited to: Pitocin, misoprostol, methergine, hemabate, mag sulfate, terbutaline, labetalol, nifedipine, hydralazine, insulin.
-Immediate stabilization of newborn.
-Administer newborn medications.
-Prep for scheduled or emergency cesarean delivery.
Postpartum/Newborn:
-Assessment and care of postpartum (vaginal and cesarean deliveries) and newborn patients.
-Newborn care includes (but not limited to): hearing screen, assisting with laboratory draws, IV starts and care, medication administration (hep B, vit K, erythromycin, antibiotics), assist with circumcisions, care of opiate withdrawal newborns, stabilization of critically ill newborns for transport, phototherapy, hypoglycemia care.
Skills:
Required Skills & Experience:
-Two (2) years current experience .
Required Certifications & Licensure:
-State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License.
-BLS.
-NRP.
-AWHONN Intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring certifications.
